You may remember Melissa + Ian’s engagement session from last summer; it was photographed at the same location as their wedding, which was a great way to prep for what we all wanted to do for wedding day portraits! Weddings at Aloha Camp are slightly less common than nearby Camp Ohana, which overlooks Lake Fairlee, but given Melissa’s personal and family connections to Aloha it was the obvious choice for such an important day in their lives. We loved every part of this day: from the relaxed stages of getting ready and getting dressed, to the not-quite-first-look when Ian kept his eyes tightly shut while Melissa helped him with his bow tie, to the emotional and poignant ceremony by the lakeside, to the wildly hilarious and touching speeches, to the energetic and drunken dance floor following dinner. It was a perfect early summer day, warm but not too hot, the kind of gorgeous light that makes the lake glow, and lush green surroundings still in the flush of late spring. (Nothing looks more green than a Vermont that has fully “sprung”.) Em grew up in this area, and grew up playing on the shores of Lake Morey, so this was a very touching location for her personally, but one would have to be crazy not to feel the love in Fairlee that day. The only thing we didn’t manage to do with Melissa + Ian was grab a cremee from the Whippi Dip down the street, but maybe that’ll happen next summer. Check out our favorites below! xoxo– Em + Steve
